Travelling in Durban with a Rental Car
Durban is the second largest city in South Africa in terms of population, and was established as a settlement in 1824, although locals inhabited the area up to 100,000 years ago. These days Durban is a lovely city, often overlooked by foreign travellers who head to other South African Cities, however growing in popularity and especially popular with domestic travellers. Durban is also home to the newly-built Moses Mabhida Stadium, which will be part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

One of the most famous attractions in the area, particularly in summer, is Ushaka Marine World, located just south of the city centre near the entrance to the harbour. Here you will find a water park, underground aquarium, as well as dolphin and seal shows. Great fun for the whole family!

A short boat trip out from the town of Umkomas lies Aliwal Shoal, which is regarded as one of he top dive sites in Africa. Huge reefs and two shipwrecks make up the site, which is home to vast varieties of fish and rays, not to mention sharks which come here each year to breed. And with water temperatures usually between 19 to 25 degrees C, it’s just another reason Durban and the surrounding area is such a great place to visit.
