Travelling in Nashville with a Hire Car

Nashville is a large city, 2nd only in the state of Tennessee to Memphis, and spread out across a large area. With attractions often great distances apart, your rental car will make life easy as you visit the sights of this great metropolis. Whether exploring the lively downtown area, or cruising through the surrounding countryside, your holiday will be as busy and exciting or as laid back as you would like it to be.

For those keen to find out a little about the origins of the area, and the way life was in the 18th and 19th centuries, there are a number of great attractions in and around Nashville that are worth a visit. Jump in your hire car and head northeast of the city centre to the Historic Mansker’s Station, just near the town of Goodlettsville, where you will find out all about the way of life in the area during the early days of settlement. Set in an authentic recreation of a 1779 fort, you will experience almost every aspect of life as a pioneer, from their construction methods through to farming techniques, a great eye opener!

Back in the city, drive your rental car a short distance west of downtown, where you will find a very unique attraction indeed located in centennial park, the main outdoor space in the city. Visible from afar, a full size replica of the Greek Parthenon stands in the park, originally built in 1796 for the World’s Fair and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Tennessee joining the union. Within the building you will find a great art museum, and the surrounding park features detailed gardens, wide lawns and a lake, perfect for a break from all that sightseeing.

For those travelling with kids in Nashville, a trip to Nashville Zoo is a must. Head south of the downtown area in your rental car, and visit the zoo which has a great collection of animals in dedicated sections such as Africa, Asia, and the worlds of reptiles, primates and fish. The zoo also includes the largest community built playground in the US, known as the “Jungle Gym”, which features a huge number of slides, nets and climbing structures, a perfect place for the kids to play.

With other attractions such as the Country Music Hall of Fame and the studios for the Grande Ole Opry, Nashville certainly has enough sights to keep you busy. Regardless of how long you decide to visit for, it is an ideal place to stop off while touring the United States with your rental car.
