Travelling in New Plymouth with a Car Hire

Collect your car hire from one of the airport or downtown depots and get ready to explore New Plymouth. Get your bearings by taking a walk along the Coastal Walkway, a 7km path that stretches almost the length of the city. Along the way you’ll see spectacular ocean views, the New Plymouth Aquatic Centre and the famous Wind Wand. Drive your car hire over to the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery or go to Puke Ariki, a fully integrated museum, library and information centre. Enjoy the wonderful wonderful gardens within the 52ha Pukekura Park, which is also home to the Brooklands Zoo. If you’re lucky enough to be in New Plymouth between December and March, see the beautiful festival of lights in Pukekura Park.

Dominating the skyline is the majestic Mt Taranaki in Egmont National Park. Take a trip in your car hire and you can walk any one of the hundreds of hiking trails, rock climbing, and in winter enjoy great skiing and snowboarding. Drive about 10 minutes south of New Plymouth to Lake Mangamahoe, where you can take the 6km circuit walk that winds through production forest, regenerated native bush and of course the Lake.
