Pompeii to the Amalfi Coast

Day 1: Pompeii

On the first day of the trip, spend the day in the historical city of Pompeii. Devastated by the Vesuvius volcano in 79AD, Pompeii has a vast range of historical sites, being the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, the most famous place in the region.

The Anfiteatro Romano, Teatro Grande and the Forum are also worthwhile if there is time left on the trip. Day 2: Pompeii to Sorrento

Distance: 27km

Time: 33 minutes

Take the SS145 and enjoy the scenic view. Make a detour to Monte Faito, one of the highest peaks in the Lattari mountains. Covered in beech trees, the location offers fine walks with sensational views.

Sorrento is surrounded by cliffs that separate the town from its busy marinas. The village is known for its beautiful beaches, historic buildings and dramatic scenery.

Bagni Salvatore is known for its clear water & views of Roman ruins. Walk around Corso Italia to see some of the most remarkable buildings in Sorrento, eat and shop.

Pompeii Amalfi

Day 3: Sorrento to Positano

Distance: 25km

Time: 48 minutes

Continue on the SS145 until you reach Spiaggia di Tordigliano. This beach remains unspoiled due to its concealed location.

Positano is a popular destination for couples looking for a romantic getaway and families. Its steep, narrow streets are lined with boutiques and restaurants.

Visit the Museo Archeologico Romano Positano to see ancient artefacts and murals. Check out the many small churches the village has to offer such as Chiesa di Maria SS. del Rosario and Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta e Cripta Medievale.

Day 4: Positano to Amalfi

Distance: 17km

Time: 38 minutes

Before leaving Positano, hike to Monte Molare and take in the view at the highest point of the Amalfi Peninsula. Take the SS163 and continue until Praiano. The small town has some of the most romantic spots of the region, fantastic food and pristine beaches.

Amalfi is a dramatic natural setting, with cliffs, natural scenery, and delicious fresh seafood. Visit the Valle delle Ferriere and its great woods and natural waterfalls to see a different site of the Amalfi Coast.

Day 5: Amalfi to Maiori

Distance: 20km

Time: 48 minutes

Drive to Ravello, a resort home to iconic cliffside gardens and visit Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium for a concert or play and its beautiful terrace views. Then, take a stroll to Lido di Ravello Beach Club, an enclosed pebble beach with sun loungers & umbrellas to rent.

Maiori has been a charming town popular with tourists since the Roman Times. Visit Castello di San Nicola de Thoro-Plano, a place of refuge for the town population against pirate attacks since the 1400s.

Day 6: Maiori to Cava de' Tirreni

Distance: 19km

Time: 35 minutes

Take the SS163 (Amalfi Drive) and continue admiring the coastal views. Make a stop at Torre di Cetara, a 15th-century tower overlooking the small beach of Cetara.

Cava de’ Tirreni is an ancient and historic town filled with beautiful churches such as Badia della Santissima Trinita and Santuario S. Francesco E S. Antonio.

The town has lovely cafes in its narrow streets, perfect for a relaxing day.

Day 7: Cava de' Tirreni to Salerno

Distance: 13km

Time: 20 minutes

Salerno is a busy port town filled with culture and history. Known for its pristine and calm sapphire waters, great food and wine, the town also has a bustling nightlife and entertainment scene called the "movida".

Venture into the alleys of the historic centre to reach the piazza Largo Campo, another popular gathering spot. Don't forget to visit the stunning Castello di Arechi and take in the view as you reach the end of your trip.
