The city of Perth is beautiful all-year round and often over-looked so if you're lucky you can beat any crowds you may find in other major cities. Heading south for about 2 hours and 25 minutes you will arrive at Busselton which is famous for its jetty. The Busselton Jetty is a whopping 1,841 metres long (1.8kms) and has stood there since the year 1865. There is a small fee of $4 to gain access to the jetty but this is only during the Interpretive Centre's opening hours, so it is best to check their website if you are wanting to avoid paying any fees. This jetty is the perfect walk to break up your road trip as you head towards Margaret River.
Once you've walked the jetty, head down below to the Underwater Observatory and Marine Conservation, which is one of only six underwater observatories in the world! Here you will be able to discover more than 300 individual marine species in their natural habitat through the observatories 11 viewing windows.
Continuing on for about 30 minutes you will enter Yallingup which is home to Ngilgi Cave which was previously known as Yallingup Cave. This unique looking cave was actually Western Australia's first tourist attraction - and we can definitely see why. You can either choose a semi-guided tour if you are happy to stroll through the cave or an Adventure Tour if you want to climb and squeeze through the depths of Ngilgi Cave.
Feeling adventurous? Head out to the Yallingup Maze which features the only timber maze within the Margaret River region. Even on a rainy day there are a range of free puzzles to de-code in the cafe along with freshly brewed coffee and local produce.
Heading further down south for another 30 minutes you will find the ever-so beautful Margaret River. Filled with over 200 unique wineries this is a bucket-list destination for anyone. If you're looking for some recommendations be sure to check out: Vasse Felix (Margaret River’s founding wine estate), Voyager Estate (family-owned organic vineyard) and Cape Mentelle (the third oldest winery in the region). If you're more of a craft beer or cider person then be sure to hit up Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co. or the Margaret River Brewhouse. If you really want to be spoilt for choice then take a full-day or half-day winery tour such as Margies Big Day Out Beer & Wine Tours or Wine For Dudes.
After you've "wine-d" down from your winery and brewery tours taste some of the local produce. No trip to Margaret River would be complete without a visit to The Margaret River Chocolate Company or one of the local restaurants, the possibilities are endless!
